Distributed Beamforming using 1 Bit Feedback: from Concept to Realization
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present theoretical and experimental results for a distributed beamforming system based on a simple 1bit feedback algorithm. The algorithm is based on an iterative procedure, that synchronizes multiple transmitters to cooperatively send a common message signal coherently to a receiver, using only a single bit of feedback in each timeslot. Under this scheme, the transmitters make independent, random phase adjustments every timeslot, and retain only those phase adjustments that increase the SNR at the receiver. We describe the design of an experimental prototype to implement the beamforming algorithm, and present measurement data that shows the SNR gains from beamforming. We also analyze the convergence behavior of the procedure mathematically using a statistical approach. We show that the mathematical model gives accurate predictions for the convergence rate in static and time-varying channels, and use the analysis to demonstrate the scalability of the algorithm.

Distributed spatial multiplexing with 1-bit feedback
We analyze the feasibility of distributed spatial multiplexing with limited feedback in a slow-fading interference network with MN non-cooperating single-antenna sources and M non-cooperating single-antenna destinations. In particular, we assume that the sources are divided into M mutually exclusive groups of N sources each, every group is dedicated to transmit a common message to a unique dest...

متن کاملAdaptive Beamforming with Per-Antenna Feedback for Multi-Cell Cooperative Networks
Beamforming is a signal processing technique that enables antenna arrays to create directional signals, increasing transmitter or receiver gain. We propose a new adaptive user antenna beamforming technique for Multi-cell Cooperative Networks which simultaneously communicates with multiple available BSs and RSs using the MS’s multiple antennas. We show that the proposed adaptive beamforming tech...
متن کاملImproved Directional Perturbation Algorithm for Collaborative Beamforming
This paper discusses the collaborative beamforming problem using improved directional perturbation approach based on one bit feedback scheme. There are multiple transmitters and one receiver in our setup, all the transmitters send a common signal synchronously, the receiver return a one bit of feedback to the transmitters. Each transmitter uses only the one bit feedback and local information to...
متن کاملEfficient Closed-Loop Communication in the Presence of Feedback Delay and Error
The closed-loop transmit diversity technique is used to improve the performance of the downlink channel in MIMO communication systems. The WCDMA standard endorsed by 3GPP adopts two modes of downlink closed-loop schemes based on partial channel state information. The information is fed back from the mobile unit to the base station through a low-rate uncoded feedback bit stream. Previously [1], ...
